Food with Braces

By placing the orthodontic appliance, you are on your way for a beautiful smile. As you are on this thrilling journey, please be aware that certain types of food can hurt the wires or braces – and make your daily routine oral hygiene more challenging. Do not worry, your orthodontic treatment will be valid at the end! You need to pay special attention to what you eat. Let’s start with the foods you should avoid.

.

Popcorn

Popcorn can be cough and remain between the braces and the tooth, where they are very difficult to remove. They can stick between the teeth and under the gums, making them red and swollen.

Soda Drinks

Acid Drinks

Acid drinks such as soft drinks – including sparkling beverages – sports drinks, energy drinks and lemonade are particularly difficult for teeth with braces. Some people notice white spots on their teeth when the appliances are removed. These spots are areas where the tooth enamel is demineralized  making a way for bacteria to create cavities. The resulting white spots are unlikely to be permanent.

Caramels

Caramels, sticky or jelly can cover the gums with sticky sugar and may even break the braces.

Hard Candy

Hard Candy

Hard Candy can break the braces and wrap the wires. Also, sugar can create more dental plaque around the teeth where cleaning is difficult.

Hard Food

Foods like pizza, strong walnuts can twist the wire and break the braces. Healthy fruits and vegetables that have to be cut with the front teeth can also damage the orthodontic appliances. They include apple, corn on the cob, carrots, etc. All this does not mean you have to give up these fruits and vegetables but should be careful when eating. Cut the raw fruit and vegetables into small pieces and chop carefully, or steam them to soften them.

Ice Cube

Biting the ice is not good for the teeth , it can cause special problems in braces cases, possibly disconnecting the braces or moving a wire.
